Yu-Gi-Oh! in Bairnsdale
Free Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays, 3pm to 6pm
Every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm, our Macleod Street hub opens its tables to Yu-Gi-Oh! duellists. There's no cost to attend - come straight from school or work, pull up a chair, shuffle up and play.
A duelling card game played face to face
Yu-Gi-Oh! is a trading card game where two players face off across the table with a deck they have built themselves. You summon monsters, set spells and traps, and chain your plays together to bring your opponent's Life Points from 8000 down to zero. A duel can turn on a single set card, so every game is its own puzzle.
Our Thursday session is about bringing like-minded people together. We're providing the venue - a proper space with room to spread out your playmat, meet other duellists and get a game going. At this stage we aren't running the duels ourselves; the tables belong to the community, and the players who come along are happy to help new people learn if you're keen.
Tables are open every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm at ESports Collective on Macleod Street, Bairnsdale. There's no cost to attend - bring your deck, or come along and watch a few duels first.
All experience levels welcome - from your very first starter deck to players who know the current meta inside out.
When is Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays on?
Every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm. Come straight after school or work, or drop in later for a duel or two.
There's no cost to come along and play. Bring your own deck and playmat and grab a table.
Snacks and drinks are available to buy on the night, so you can keep going without leaving the table.
At our purpose-built hub at 58 Macleod Street, Bairnsdale, in the heart of East Gippsland.
Never duelled before? No problem!
Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays is for everyone, whether you're opening your first structure deck or you've been building since the early sets.
Let someone know you're new and the players in the room will walk you through a duel. Everyone started somewhere, and a starter deck is enough to play.
Played years ago and still have the binder in a cupboard? Bring it along. Plenty of people here are dusting off old decks and catching up on what's changed.
Duelling works across any age, so kids, teens and adults all share the tables. Sometimes the youngest player in the room has the sharpest deck.
Into other card and board games?
Thursday is the Yu-Gi-Oh! night, and there's something on the table most other days too.
Free tabletop Mondays from 3pm till late, where Magic and other card and board games share the room. See our tabletop Mondays.
Free chess Wednesdays from 4pm to 6pm, with the boards provided. See our chess Wednesdays.
Weekly tables for primary schoolers, high schoolers and adults. See our weekly D&D tables.
Can I use the gaming PCs on Thursday?
Yes. Gaming PCs can be booked on Thursdays, but they aren't part of the free Yu-Gi-Oh! session. A PC is $15 an hour or $22 for two hours - the same as casual gaming - and you can book your machine ahead.
Can I get support to attend?
Yes. Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays is free for everyone. If you're an NDIS participant and would like support to attend, a support worker can come along with you through Gippsland Care Collective. Your NDIS funding covers that support - the person alongside you, working towards your goals - while the table is shared with everyone else in the room.
If you're a participant, family member or support coordinator, get in touch and we'll talk through arranging support for Thursday afternoons.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays questions
When is Yu-Gi-Oh! on in Bairnsdale?
Every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm at ESports Collective, 58 Macleod Street, Bairnsdale.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. There's no cost to attend Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays. Snacks and drinks are available to buy, and gaming PCs can be booked at the usual rate of $15 an hour or $22 for two hours.
Do I need my own deck?
Yes - we don't supply cards, so bring your own deck. A starter or structure deck straight out of the box is plenty to play with. If you don't have one yet, come along and watch a few duels first; nobody will mind.
Do I need to know how to play?
No. We aren't running the duels ourselves at this stage, but the community is happy to help new people learn if you're keen. Let someone know you're new and they'll show you the ropes.
Who can come along?
Everyone. Yu-Gi-Oh! Thursdays is open to all ages and all experience levels, so kids, teens and adults share the tables.
Are the gaming PCs free on Thursdays?
No. The PCs can be booked on Thursdays but aren't part of the free Yu-Gi-Oh! session - they're $15 an hour or $22 for two hours, and you can book a machine ahead.
Can NDIS participants get support to attend?
Yes. Support to attend can be provided by Gippsland Care Collective. NDIS funding covers the support worker who comes along with you; the session itself is free for everyone. Make an NDIS enquiry and we'll help arrange it.
Can I bring a client along as an external support worker?
Yes. Where supports are already in place, we don't see value in switching them up, so support workers from other providers are welcome to bring clients along. We do expect support workers to be involved in the games. If an external support worker doesn't take part and add value for the whole community, we'll ask that they don't attend. Not every support worker wears a uniform, so people in the room can't always tell who is supporting who - which means how any support worker shows up reflects on our own team and our business.
Where is it held?
At our purpose-built gaming hub at 58 Macleod Street, Bairnsdale VIC 3875, in the heart of East Gippsland.
