The short answer

How do young people outside Bairnsdale get to ESports Collective?

Transport to and from our hub at 58 Macleod Street, Bairnsdale can be arranged as part of a participant's supports - so living in Sale, Orbost or anywhere in between doesn't have to mean missing out.

There's nothing else quite like ESports Collective in East Gippsland, and we know that for a lot of families the distance is the only thing in the way. That's exactly the problem transport supports exist to solve. A support worker can travel with the participant, the trip itself becomes part of the session, and the time in the car is often where some of the best conversations happen.

Every arrangement is different, so we work it out together - pickup point, days, who travels, and how it fits the participant's plan.

Funding

Can NDIS funding cover transport?

Often, yes. Many NDIS plans can fund travel to and from community supports, depending on the participant's plan and goals. Transport might sit alongside Core supports like Assistance with Social and Community Participation, within Capacity Building supports such as Increased Social and Community Participation, or under other goal-aligned categories - it depends on what's in the plan and what the participant is working towards.

We're not plan managers, so we won't pretend there's one answer for everyone. What we will do is talk it through with you, your support coordinator or your plan manager and find the arrangement that works. There's no cost to ask.

Worth knowing

The trip is part of the support

When a support worker travels with a participant, the drive isn't dead time - it's one-on-one time. For plenty of young people, the conversation on the way home is where the day's wins get talked through.

Where we travel from

Which towns does ESports Collective support?

We support young people across East Gippsland and Wellington Shire. Here's roughly what the trip looks like from each town.

Sale

About 50 minutes up the Princes Highway. Our most travelled run, and easy to share with Maffra and Stratford pickups.

Maffra

About 55 minutes, joining the highway at Stratford. Often combined with the Sale run.

Stratford

About 35 minutes straight down the Princes Highway - close enough for after school sessions.

Lakes Entrance

About 30 minutes along the highway - the shortest run, and weekly sessions are very doable.

Orbost

About an hour and ten minutes. Longer visits and school holiday programs make the trip well worth it.

Somewhere else?

If you're anywhere in East Gippsland or Wellington Shire - Paynesville, Bruthen, Metung, Heyfield - ask us. If we can make it work, we will.
